Jutsu to be trained:

Kiku was at a different training ground from his usual one. This was one of the few times he'd be able to train without the risk of starting some sick fires. This time he was going to try out a non-elemental jutsu. It was a rare opportunity for him to check out one of the nicer, more verdant training grounds. Green grass, a couple of trees, the occasional flower, a stream through it all, it was really pretty there. It was also a more remote field, which served his purposes. Between that and the training, he hoped he would be able to take his mind off the awkward meeting he'd had with his new teammate earlier.

He was really excited about this jutsu. It was supposedly a legendary technique used by an ancestor of his during the Time of Legends. The jutsu itself was a force to be reckoned with, and the legends spoke of even stronger variants on it. The scroll he'd found had only shown the technique for the basic version, and even that had taken him forever to find.

Day one was dedicated to stage one of the training. Kiku wore a swimsuit under his clothes, he would need it for what was ahead. He set down the box he had brought with him and left his suit neatly folded on a rock in the corner of the field. Taking a water balloon from the box, he started to focus his chakra into it. The water sloshed around inside, starting to spin. The balloon was stretching a bit, but not breaking. Taking a deep breath, Kiku put more power into the technique. The balloon stretched more and more before finally bursting. He sighed. That had taken way too long. He'd need to be much faster if this was going to be a viable technique. He took another from the box, trying again. It was a little quicker than the first time, but not by much. One down, 48 to go. It was getting dark by the time he finished, and he was drenched. Kiku lay down for a few minutes before drying himself off. He pulled on his suit and dragged himself home, barely able to walk. This high-ranking training sure was exhausting.

Day two, he could move onto the next phase of training. The first day had been tiring, but it had been worth it. He'd been able to burst one of those balloons like it was nothing. Today was going to be a lot harder. He'd learned his lesson from the prior day, wearing simple workout clothes instead of his usual suit. For this sort of exertion he'd need the extra comfort. He set down another box and pulled out a rubber ball. It was hollow, but had a thick exterior. This was going to be a challenge. He called up his chakra, forcing it into the ball. He kept pouring in more and more, condensing it in an attempt to rip the ball apart. For several minutes, Kiku ratcheted up the power until the ball finally exploded. It was a lot more forceful than he'd expected. He set his glasses aside so they wouldn't break from one of the pops. He pulled out another ball. That had been pretty tough, Kiku was beginning to question the wisdom of getting these in sets of fifty. One by one he burst them, getting quicker each time. By seven at night, he had run out. He was up to a reasonable level of speed by now, which was good since he'd run out of both rubber balls and steam. He put his glasses back on and stumbled home.

On day three, he was back at the training field bright and early. He had another box with him, this time full of balloons. Just air this time, no water. According to the scroll this was the most difficult part, but it seemed right up Kiku's alley. He'd always enjoyed this sort of delicate control. Precision was one of the few things even Kiku admitted he was good at. The balloon stretched and warped as he started to swirl his chakra inside it. Kiku frowned, that wasn't what he was going for at all. He had to keep the balloon in its original shape with the technique contained inside it. He tried to concentrate on fixing that, but his concentration was broken by a loud pop. This was a lot harder than he'd anticipated. Keeping all that power swirling in a consistent, controlled shape was one hell of a task. He pulled out another balloon, trying it again. To his alarm, this one popped even more quickly. He was getting careless in his frustration. Kiku took a few deep breaths, trying to calm himself. He'd need every ounce of focus he had for this. Sure, he'd eventually need to wean himself off this intense concentration before this was combat-ready, but before he could do that he actually needed to be able to do the technique. Kiku pulled out a third balloon, focusing again. This one held out more than a minute before it burst.

By nightfall, Kiku was completely drained. Still, he was more than happy with how the day had gone. He still had eight balloons left, and had been using the same one for more than an hour. He'd managed to get it stable. In celebration, Kiku took out a kunai and popped the remaining balloons. A little pointless maybe, but the sound was satisfying and he needed a reward after the day he'd had. He collected his trash and went home, looking forward to another day of training.

Day four was when he started to get into the actual technique. Kiku focused his chakra into his hand, and finally got to see the infamous rasengan for the first time. He just looked on in awe for a moment. A swirling ball of pure chakra, without any nature transformation to it. Just his raw power in its purest form. He was so distracted by watching it that the technique lost focus and fizzled out. Kiku scolded himself. The rasengan was supposed to be able to keep going indefinitely if properly put together, he still needed some work. He called it up again, focusing on keeping the technique stable. The spinning blue ball stayed in his hand this time. Deciding to test it out, Kiku ran at a tree and slammed his hand into it. The bark was stripped away in a spiral pattern around the point of impact. Kiku frowned, inspecting the damage. According to the scroll, a real rasengan would chew right through a tree with no trouble at all. But the scroll had also described something like this, an early flawed rasengan that beginners tended to make. He was on the right track, he just needed to refine it.

Kiku stepped a few paces back, forming another rasengan. He put more effort into this one, focusing it and upping the power. The genin charged again, slamming the ball of chakra into the tree. It took a respectable chunk out of it this time. Better, but still not enough. This was supposed to reduce the tree to wood chips with a single hit. Kiku formed another rasengan, refining it further. He thought he might have it this time. He slammed it upward, into the hole he'd made with the last one. It tore through the tree, scattering leaves and bits of wood everywhere. Kiku shielded his face, but when the dust settled he looked at what he'd done with no small amount of pride. Forming another rasengan, he turned his attention to the rock where he'd left his clothes on the first day. The boulder was torn apart. Hours later, he returned home, tired and happy, leaving a torn up training field.

Day five wouldn't have happened if Kiku hadn't been struck with inspiration. He'd gotten a bit scratched up the day before, and wondered if he could get around that. There were some legends that mentioned throwing a rasengan, so he knew it could probably be done. The first few attempts fizzled out, coming apart as they left his hand or shortly thereafter. It took him all day to get it right. He was near giving up when he finally managed to lob a late-evening rasengan into a tree. The tree exploded in a shower of wood chips. Excited, he tried it again. By the time he got home it was close to midnight and he was exhausted, but he had a new jutsu under his belt, one that didn't even need his trademark fire.

I'm C-rank now, and I was when I did the training. I had already been approved for promotion when I asked for this, and the promotion was on the my character app long before you denied this.
